  • Welcome to my blog!

I'm Johanna, and I'm a photographer.  You have no idea how great that sounds every time I say it.  I love being a photographer!  Aside from my family and friends, nothing gives me greater joy than capturing life's everyday moments with my camera.  This is where I get to show you how much I love what I do. It is here where I hope you will see why I am so passionate about my work, my art.  You see I've got a superpower.  I can freeze time.  Pretty cool, huh?  I think so.

fun family of four

This was another really great family session. And, you know what? Now I sound like my son! :) The dad was the one that had the idea to schedule the session because his daughter was about to get braces. Yes, the dad! Go dad!

I will post more images from the session soon, but this one was an idea that I suggested and the family was more than willing to try. I’m not the inventor of this idea, certainly, but this was the first time I have tried it. I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time, and this family’s session was the perfect time. I think this is also the perfect image I can post to show how fun and wonderful this family is!

Well, you guys nailed it!

Thanks for being so willing to do whatever I suggested. You’re a photographer’s dream! Your session images will be ready soon, and I know you’re going to love and enjoy them. To the young man, thanks for keeping me laughing the whole time with your crazy antics, and to the young lady that now sports some fancy braces – braces or not, you’re already a beautiful girl, inside and out! Thanks for the fun session!

Lauren Shannon - luv this picture – this would be so much fun to do for a holiday card!June 22, 2010 – 6:39 pm

Hannah - Ha. That’s an awesome shot!June 25, 2010 – 1:38 pm

cute as a button, pretty as a princess

How cute is she? This sweet little girl is one of my dear clients whom I had photographed a while ago, when she was young-er. Now that she is 4, she is one of my models for my new { All About Me } special sessions for 3 and 4 year old children. (More on that tomorrow, when I post additional model session images and talk about the session and the collection details.)

We had a fun time on a gorgeous day in a beautiful local park. I learned that this cutie’s favorite color is purple, which you might guess from the images, and she likes listening to music and dancing. She can also make some great funny faces!

I just love the way a 3 or 4 year old child’s personality really shines through in their images. No longer a toddler and not school age, this is a very special time of growing and learning and becoming independent. It’s a period of time I wished would have stayed longer with my own kids. It goes by so fast and I am truly happy and honored to capture these precious moments.

Thank you to all my models for being so very patient while waiting for your images to be finished and posted to your galleries. I’ve been a busy bee, and I’m so thankful to all of my clients that continue to show and talk about my work to their friends and family! There is no higher compliment than when a client recommends me to a friend!

I’m almost ready to start scheduling the sessions for the final 4 models for my { All About Me } sessions. Thanks for your patience too! I’ll be contacting you this week!

Enjoy this sneak peek “B” family! It’s just a small sample of the great images I got of your beauty!

a special Communion day…

I had the great privilege and honor of photographing this beautiful little girl on the occasion of her First Holy Communion earlier this month.

Her photo session immediately followed the church ceremony, in the small window of time and opportunity just prior to her party, which I also photographed!

This event was a fabulous feast for the senses. From start to finish, every thoughtful detail was lovingly planned by her also beautiful mom, and was thoroughly enjoyed by a friendly crowd of family and close friends.

Kudos too to Sans Souci in Sea Cliff, Long Island for providing a spectacular venue.

So pretty!

Her dress was so elegant too!

This image is one of my favorites!

When photographing an event, I love to capture the details of the day, and storyboards are a great way to display them. They are very popular with my clients, come in various sizes, can be rectangular or square in shape, and can be finished in several different ways. Aside from a print, a storyboard can be a gallery-wrapped canvas { gorgeous! } or, in a product newly added to my line, a padded and wrapped, specially coated print that is mounted so that it stands out from the wall like it is floating. You have to see it to truly appreciate it; I will have pictures of this new product up on my blog next week. A few clients have already ordered and received theirs, and we have all been very pleased with the results!

The 20″ square Communion storyboard I designed incorporates session images as well as those showing some of the details from the party. (I’ve blocked out the name, in case you’re wondering, as I try not to include names, particularly children’s names in my posts.)

Thank you to the family for allowing me to celebrate with you. I am excited to create your session album as a lasting keepsake of this momentous event in your daughter’s life!

Hannah - Oh Johanna, these are so beautiful! I love the first two images most; and the one of her Mum giving her a kiss – but they’re all wonderful! Your Communion storyboard is such a lovely product – a great gift to buy and pass on to grandparents too!June 3, 2010 – 9:34 am

the one you adore is almost 4!

Meet one of my almost-4 year old models. This little boy is bright, energetic, handsome and knows what he likes. He’s a HUGE fan of Cars – the movie and cars, in general. He knows ALL of the names of the different Cars characters in the movie, and everything about them, and there’s no tripping him up, that’s for sure! He sure taught me a thing or two!

We met in a local park, and he just had to arrive with his Cars-themed bicycle and helmet to show me how super he is at “driving”! We had a fun time playing in the playground and chasing bubbles in the field. I bet if asked, he wouldn’t mind doing it again. Next time without the camera, buddy. That lens sure gets in the way of my climbing! :)

In honor of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, I decided to go with the tried and true, red, white, and blue for this post.

Have a fun and safe holiday weekend, and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Michelle - This 4 year old is adorable! I love the picture with him in his leather jacket and sunglasses. He looks like a rock star!May 27, 2010 – 8:41 pm

Sueann Annunziata - Love the pics, they look like magazine photo shoots.May 28, 2010 – 8:13 am

jessica - thanks so much – the pics came out great!!! Can’t wait to see the rest :)May 31, 2010 – 7:15 pm

mama’s waiting…

I really enjoyed meeting this lovely couple, and I had a great time photographing them. They are expecting their first child in June and are anxiously awaiting his or her arrival. Me too, as I will have the added pleasure of photographing the little newborn, and I can’t wait!

When you book a newborn session, you receive a complimentary maternity mini session, and this mama, like many before her, was hesitant about doing the maternity session. Sadly, it’s true that hardly any expectant mama feels as beautiful as they look.

I explained that, worse case scenario, we spend a fun half hour together (yes, fun) and call it a day. I asked her to trust me, to understand my belief that regrets are for the things you never try, and thankfully, she did!

I hope she can now agree, this was certainly worth the time and effort. I got so many great images and here are some to tide them over until their gallery is ready (soon).

One thing is for certain, this baby is going to be one gorgeous kid, and with eyes to die for!

I love this next image. A blue sky overhead, green crunchy grass underfoot, a warm shining sun and a sweet young couple plus one. That’s a great recipe!

I also met their handsome dog, and we spent a few minutes together before the session while his mommie and daddie were getting ready. He’s a big guy, but he’s a complete marshmallow. Of course it wasn’t long before he was totally bored with me and my camera stuck in his face, but I just had to show you his gorgeous eyes too!

Joanna - Thank you so much Johanna – They came out great. I can’t wait to see the rest of them. I’m so happy I trusted you and took the photos.May 24, 2010 – 7:11 pm

Carrie-Ann Fiorillo - Joanna & Kyle- The pictures are beautiful. Your baby sure will be gorgeous. Excellent work Johanna but what else would we expect.May 26, 2010 – 3:03 pm

Uncle Marty - What great shots. You and Kyle came out like the models you get when you buy a picture frame! ….. and yet again…..
I think i would rather have one more shot of you and Kyle than the dogggggggggg.June 6, 2010 – 10:37 am
